The Aurora University women's hockey team defeated Trine University 2-0 in a non-conference contest on Sunday afternoon to open the 2020 portion of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Spartans and Trine played a scoreless first period as AU goalie
Chiara Pfosi stopped all eight shots sent her direction.
- Early in the second period the Spartans broke the scoreless game.Â

Nicole McKernan tallied her seventh goal of the season to give AU a 1-0 lead 2:56 into the period.
- Midway through the second the Spartans had a golden opportunity as they went to a 5v3 power play.Â
- Shortly after the first power play concluded the Spartans struck.
Taylor Sims and
Lexie Martinez connected on passes that found
Emma-Lee Martel.Â
- Martel connected on the one-time from the left point and AU led 2-0.
- After carrying the 2-0 lead into the third period, the Spartans found themselves having to kill off a 5v3 late in the third.
- AU successfully killed off the two-man advantage for Trine and carried on to a 2-0 victory.
- Pfosi made the lead stand up as she made 25 saves for her ninth win and second shutout of the season.
