The Aurora University baseball team finished the season opening series at the Derby Classic hosted by Spalding University on Sunday against Ohio Northern University. The Spartans remained unbeaten with a 5-4 victory.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS -
- The Spartans got the games scoring started in the top of the third. With two outs, Josh Reinhardt drew a walk and then went to third on a failed pick-off attempt. Dylan White then drove him in with a single. After an AJ Gill double, Justin Sartori reached on an error which scored White but Gill was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.
- ONU tied the game in the fourth courtesy of a two run triple.
- AU took back the lead in the fifth courtesy of two ONU errors and drawing four walks with no hits. With two outs, Reinhardt got the rally going with the first of three consecutive walks as White and Gill walked to load the bases. Sartori would again reach on an error with Reinhardt and White scoring. After a pitching change, Gill scampered across the plate on a wild pitch to give the Spartans a 5-2 lead.
- Brady Kauppila came in relief of Nick Malmberg who threw four innings. Kauppila would toss two shutout innings before giving way to Reinhardt in the seventh.
- With one on and two outs in the eighth, Reinhardt allowed two more singles with the second hitting the field umpire which immediately halts play. This allowed the ONU running to not score but the bases were loaded. Reinhardt struck out the next hitter to end the threat as AU still led 5-2.
- AU threatened with a two out single from Nick Baldassano and a walk to Reinhardt but were unable to push across another run.
- In the bottom of the ninth, Seth Gutknecht allowed a one out double and home run but struck out the final two hitters for his second save in as many chances.
- Spartans were victorious 5-4.
