Boyko becomes first AU hockey All-American

Aurora University Spartan junior goalie Josh Boyko made history on Friday morning as he was named as part of the 2019-2020 CCM / American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) Men's Division III All-American Team.

Boyko is the first Spartan ever selected to the AHCA All-American honor as he was tabbed as the West Second-Team goaltender. He helped lead AU to a program best 12-9-6 overall record and 8-6-6 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play while making a second straight appearance in the Harris Cup playoffs.

The All-American honor is the second, first of the year for Boyko as he became the first Spartan men's hockey player to receive NCHA All-Conference honors.

"I'm extremely proud of Josh Boyko on being awarded this tremendous honor and the first All-American honor in program history," said AU Head Coach Jason Bloomingburg. "Josh exemplifies what the character of a high level student athlete should be. He has a tremendous drive to not only push himself to be the very best everyday but, pushes everyone around him. There is no quit in Josh, he is an excellent competitor and has given us a chance to win every game. He is a fantastic student, a multi sport athlete, and just a world class human being."

On the season, Boyko finished with a 12-9-6 record and a 2.25 goals against average (2.04 in NCHA games) and had a .934 save percentage while collecting five shutouts.
