Spartans sweep victoriously on the final day of spring trip

The Aurora University softball team swept the doubleheader on the final day of the spring, defeating a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference schools, Muskingum University 4-3 and John Carroll University 10-4.

SPARTAN HIGHLIGHTS - GAME ONE vs. Muskingum University
- The Spartans threatened with two singles to start the inning from Brianna Lewis and Josie Lytton but they were left stranded.
- A lead-off walk to Megan Schwartz in the fourth would produce a run when Aly Teixeira hit a run scoring double.
- Muskingum took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth with two free passes scoring on a double.
- In the sixth, the Spartan bats came to life. Two singles were followed by a run scoring double off the bat of Bryanna Perez and a two run double from Cassidy Rourke and AU led 4-2.
- Muskingum threatened in the top of the seventh, scoring once but Hannah Tomasko got a strikeout to end the threat as AU won 4-3.

SPARTAN TOP PERFORMERS - GAME ONE vs. Muskingum University
- Hannah Tomasko earned her third win of the season, pitching seven innings, allowing three runs and striking out 12.
- Aly Teixeira was two for three with a double, one run batted in and one run scored.
- Cassidy Rourke was one for two with a double and two runs batted in.

SPARTAN HIGHLIGHTS - GAME TWO vs. John Carroll University
- AU scored in six of the seven innings with the fifth being the lone scoreless inning.
- In the first, Brianna Lewis led off with a single and later scored on a sac fly from Aly Teixeira.
- With the game tied 1-1, the offense scored again in the second. A lead off single from Ashley Talaga got the inning started and she would score on a double from Brianna Lewis.
- The game was again tied up by JCU as AU's offense responded in the third. 
- A one out single from Mckenzie Flores ignited a two run inning with Flores scoring on a Teixeira single. Teixeira would score on a double from Talaga and AU led 4-2.
- A scoreless frame from Renner in the third set up the offense to add on in the fourth. Jemma Fiehweg led off with a triple and she scored on a sac fly from Lewis.
- JCU scored a run in the fifth to cut the AU lead to 5-3.
- The Spartans opened up the game in the sixth. With one out, a double from Lewis started a run of seven straight Spartans to reach base via hit, walk or error. When the inning ended, AU scored four times and led 9-3.
- As they had done all game, AU answered a JCU run with another in the seventh. Josie Lytton walked and would score on a single from Abbey Miller.
- Renner struck out the final hitter of the game as the Spartans were victorious 10-4. . 

SPARTAN TOP PERFORMERS- GAME TWO vs. John Carroll University
- Stephanie Renner tossed a complete game victory, striking out nine and scattering four runs.
- Brianna Lewis was three for four with two doubles, two runs batted in and two runs scored.
- Aly Teixeira was two for three with a double, three runs batted in and one run scored.
- Ashley Talaga was two for three with a double, one run scored and one run batted in.
- mega Schwartz was three for five.
- Jemma Fiehweg was one for four with a triple and one run scored.

UP NEXT
Next action for the Spartan softball team comes on Saturday, March 14 when they open up the northern portion of the 2020 schedule. AU will host University of Wisconsin Eau-Claire. First pitch of game one is set for 1:00 pm at Bedrosian Stadium at Spartan Athletic Park.
