Aurora University men's golf freshman Scott
Boyajian was selected as a member of the 2020 Golf Coaches Association of American Division III All-Freshman Team, as the team was announced on Tuesday.
The individual recognition for
Boyajian comes after the Spartan team finished 20th in the final 2020 NCAA Division III Bushnell
Golfweek Top 25 Coaches Poll.
In his first collegiate season at AU,
Boyajian led the Spartans to a
NACC Championship heading into the scheduled third and fourth rounds that were to be played in the spring of 2020 by 26 strokes. He was the
NACC Championship leader after two rounds with a two-round score of 150 with a 73 and 77. On the season over 10 rounds he average a 73.9 per 18 holes which included a four-under 68 at the Elmhurst College Invitational and a one-under 71 at the Naperville Intercollegiate.
"I truly live off of team accomplishments and what we can do as a program here at Aurora University. However, I never take away from someone individually crushing it on and off the golf course. Scott
Boyajian walked onto campus Day 1 with a different outlook, passion and drive to become special. Scotty's a dream come true to any Coach," said AU Head Golf Coach
Justin Wyeth. "He leads by example, works extremely hard and is all about winning. Scott had one of the more outstanding Fall seasons I've ever witnessed. Scott played in seven events, winning two of those, had three top 5's and four top 10 finishes. The best part about Scott is that he will come back hungrier for his team and own individual goals. I'm very proud of Scotty; "HARD WORK DOESN'T HIDE!" I can't wait to follow him for the next 3-4 years!
This accomplishment helps put Aurora University Men's Golf in the national spotlight."
In the fall 2019 portion of the 2019-2020 schedule, AU as a team won five of the seven tournaments they took part in and finished the fall with an impressive showing at the first two days of the four day split Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference Championship. The 2020 spring portion of the schedule was abruptly canceled due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
