Spartans' season comes to an end in heartbreaking loss to Eagles

The Aurora University men's soccer team faced archrival Benedictine in the last conference matchup of the season. In a closely contested battle, the Spartans fell to the Eagles 2-1. With the loss, the Spartans will not advance to the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference tournament.

RECORDS: Aurora University 7-7-3 overall and 5-5-2 in the NACC; Benedictine University 12-3-2 overall and 9-2-1 in the NACC

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles struck first with a goal in the 7th minute, giving Benedictine a 1-0 lead.
- As minutes fell off the clock in the first half, the Spartans struggled offensively, not able to capitalize on any scoring opportunities.
- Heading to the halftime break, AU trailed 1-0.
- In the 48th minute, Benedictine scored, extending their lead 2-0.
- AU cut the score in half after a quick corner kick from Cristian Correa to Enrique Gonzalez who headed the ball across the box where another header from Eduardo Carrillo found the back of the Eagles net. 
- In the final minutes of the game, the Spartans had two scoring opportunities, both shots hitting the crossbar.
- The Spartans battled the entire 90 minutes, but would go on to fall to Benedictine 2-1.
