The Aurora University women's hockey team opened the 2021-2022 season with a 3-0 shutout over Chatham University on Friday night at Fox Valley Ice Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- A scoreless first period saw both the Spartans head to the penalty box three times with one power play.
- AU out shot Chatham 17-10 in the opening 20 minutes.
- The second period had nine total penalties with AU dominating the shots 24 to 5.
- At 13:01 of the second, AU got on the scoreboard.
- Freshman
Ellie Visser scored her first collegiate goal, unassisted.
- With tenths of seconds left on the second period clock, Visser and the Spartans struck again.
- Visser was assisted by
Stephanie Schmunk and
Marisa Trevino on the play and AU led 2-0 going to the second intermission.
- AU continued to dominate play in the third period but Chatham goalie Katy Reed made A+ save one after another.
- Another Spartan freshman scored her first collegiate goal at 7:58.
