Frenzied fourth quarter sends Spartans to defeat

The Aurora University women's basketball team led heading into the fourth quarter on Tuesday night in Thornton Gymnasium in a non-conference contest with Greenville University. But the visiting Panthers went 6-of-10 from three in the final frame to knock off the Spartans 80-76.

How it happened
- The game out to a slow start with AU trailing 9-2 2:30 into the contest.
- AU battled back and with 2:49 to play, were within one at 15-14 on a free throw make from Sydni Olson.
- The Spartans would trail after one quarter 20-14.
- Trailing by eight (29-21) with 6:06 to play in the first-half, the Spartans came alive.
- A Macy Kocen layup for the AU 17-3 run started.
- A put back from Crystal Rios gave the Spartans their first lead at 32-31.
- Three's from Rios and Gabby Moore would send the Spartans to halftime leading 38-32.
- AU maintained a lead in the third and with a Karli Fischbach layup with 1:58 to go, the Spartans had their largest lead at 13 (53-40).
- Fischbach drained a three just before the quarter emded and AU led 60-48.
- The fourth quarter saw the visiting Panthers come out energized and a 10-0 run gave AU a two-point lead at 60-58 with 8:11 to go.
- Baskets by Victoria Perry and Rios pushed the lead back to seven just one minute later.
- Greenville though was knocking down three's from all over in the fourth and took the lead 67-65 with 4:23 to play.
- AU took a one-point lead with 2:41 to play after two Savannah Johnson free throws.
- The Spartans would be out-scored 10-5 in the final 1:40 of the game and fall 80-76.
