Career night from Galauner nets Spartans victory

The Aurora University women's basketball team scored early and often on Friday evening in Thornton Gymnasium to defeat the visiting Cougars of Concordia Chicago 90-66. Four Spartans scored in double figures led by 24 points from guard Crystal Rios and 16 from guard Julie Galauner.

BEYOND THE BOX
- Julie Galauner had a career night, scoring 41 points, a career high/
- This basket (WATCH NOW) clinched the game, pushed her to her career high in points while also moving into a tie for second-place on the all-time scoring list the AU great Jen (Gabel) Buckley).
- She also became the all-time leader in three-point field goals made tonight for AU and the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
- She surpassed Spartan Bethany Doorington who had 248 made threes and Wisconsin Lutheran College Caitlin Kneuppel who had 249. Galauner now has 251.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- AU came out slow in the first quarter and the visitors took advantage, leading 21-14 after one.
- The Spartans shot just 31% in the second quarter and went to halftime down 34-27.
- Things came alive for AU in the third quarter following an inspirational halftime talk from Head Coach Ryan Rebsom.
- A 19-1 AU run capped off by a record breaking three from Galauner gave the Spartans a 46-37 lead with just over four minutes to go in the third.
- Galauner finished the third with 19 points and the career records at AU and in the NACC for three's made.
- AU led 57-48. 
- The Spartans built a 12-point lead in the fourth but the visitors slowly chipped away.
- After a missed free throw by AU, the Spartans led 72-70 with seconds to play. A shot was blocked but the rebound found an open Cougar under the basket and she tied the game just before the buzzer.
- The game was headed to overtime, 72-72.
- Crystal Rios got the scoring started in overtime with a three.
- After being down one, Galauner made a driving shot to put AU ahead 77-76.
- Up two with 34 seconds left, Rios corralled a rebound setting up the final possession that sealed the AU win.
- With the shot clock winding down, Galauner attempted a fade away three which went in, giving AU an 81-76 lead with just over three seconds left.
- The career night from Galauner lifted AU to the 81-76 win.
