Spartans bring the thunder at CUC

The Spartan baseball team traveled to Concordia University Chicago Saturday afternoon and had one heck of a day at the plate. The Spartans beat the Cougars in both games of their doubleheader, 23-5 and 24-3, pounding out 44 hits including 18 extra-base hits in the 14 innings of baseball.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS -
- The Spartans started their scoring outburst in the 1st inning, scoring three on three hits from Corey Vondra, Dylan White, and Nico Bermeo.
- The Cougars scored two in the bottom half on a 2-run home run.
- The Spartans got two more in the 2nd with a 2-run home run off the bat of Paul Dobravec.
- In the 3rd, Jacob Ambuel sent one out of the park to put the Spartans up 6-2.
- CUC added two more in the bottom half of the 3rd on back-to-back home runs.
- The Spartans scored two in the 4th with Jett Wedekind and Collin Meinert getting the RBI hits.
- AU opened the game up in the 5th when they scored 13 runs. Justin Sartori, Josh Reinhardt, Ambuel, and White all had extra base hits in the inning.
- Spartan Paul Dobravec launched his second home run of the game over the fence in the 6th to give the Spartans their 23-4 final score.
- Spartans win 23-4.

- Spartans Vondra and Wedekind came across to score in the 1st inning to take a quick 2-0 lead.
- In the 2nd, AU brought home 8 runs. Justin Sartori capped off the inning with a 3-run blast.
- CUC scored one in the 2nd on one hit.
- The Spartans brought home four in the 3rd via the long ball with Dobravec hitting his third of the day and Dylan White hitting the other.
- In the 4th, Meinert doubled in Vondra to extend the lead to 15-1.
- Seven more Spartans came across to score in the 5th. White and Meinert both had doubles.
- Spartan pitcher Josh Reinhardt ended his outing striking out a CUC hitter and only allowing one run through 5 innings.
- In the 7th, Sartori brought in two more runs on a single.
- CUC added their final two runs in the 7th on a 2-run home run.
