The Aurora University women's lacrosse team set several historical marks in the young programs history on Sunday afternoon at the University of Chicago. AU played in and then won the first NCAA Division III Tournament game not only for the Spartans but also for the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. HOW IT HAPPENED
- AU fell behind 2-0 four minutes into the contest.
- Just 12 seconds after going down 2-0, AU's Monique Gibson scored to give the Spartans their first NCAA tournament goal.
- 34 seconds later, Danielle Cobbett scored and the game was tied 2-2.
- After Carroll scored to take a 3-2 lead, the Spartans dominated play.
- AU scored nine straight goals spanning 17:07 of the first-half and with 2:35 to play, AU led 11-3.
- Claire Carlson and Gibson scored three goals each in the run with Jalyn Yaukovitz scoring twice and Cobbett adding her second of the game.
- AU led going to halftime, 11-5.
- The Spartans led 11-7 with 21 minutes left in the game as Carroll began to infringe on the AU momentum.
- But Spartan senior Claire Carlson scored two of the games final three goals to seal the win for AU.
