Peterson and Spartans jump into 2022

The Aurora University men's track and field team finished fourth out of 11 teams at the Red Hawk Opener hosted by Ripon College. The Spartans had a total of 14 personal records, eight top ten all-time performances, and one school record.  
 
Sophomore Robbie Peterson Jr. placed second in the triple jump, breaking his own school record. His jump of 14.59m currently ranks him seventh in the nation. Peterson also PR'd in long jump with a jump of 6.62m. This mark moves him up to sixth in AU history.  
 
Three Spartans had lifetime best performances in the weight throw. Jalen Cole placed fourth with his best throw of 14.86m. This mark ranks him ninth in school history. Steven Tinsley had two top ten all-time performances. His lifetime bests of 14.07m in shot put and 14.78m in weight throw rank him tenth in school history in both events. Bryan Sackie-Mensah also PR'd in weight throw with a throw of 11.16m.  
Freshman Diego Hassell placed third in the 60m hurdles with a lifetime best of 9.06. Isaac Brewer also PR'd with a time of 9.75. Hassell's time in the 60m hurdles ranks him seventh in AU history.  
Danyrine White's placed fourth in the 400 with his fastest indoor time of 51.85. This time ranks him seventh in school history. 
 
Aurora welcomed the distance squad back to the track as they competed in their first meet of the season. Jacob Bohnert placed fifth in the 3K running his lifetime best of 9:13.64. This time ranks him ninth in AU history. Cris Valencia and Francis Balquin also PR'd in the 3K finishing in 9:48.09 and 10:15.23, respectively. Senior Nick Valle ran lifetime bests in the mile and 800.  
 
Next action for the Spartan men's track and field team is Saturday, January 29 when they host the Aurora Grand Prix in Chicago, IL.
