The Aurora University men's hockey team tallied three power play goals including one with just over a minute left in regulation to defeat the Trine University Thunder 4-3 in the NCHA opener.

-Â AU fell behind 1-0 with a Trine goal 3:27 into the game.
- The hosts dominated the action in the first period with Spartan netminder
Tanner Marshall making numerous saves to keep AU in the contest.
- With 5:16 left in the first and 26 seconds into a power play, Giovanni Procopio scored to tie the game.
Jack Jaunich and
Simon Boyko had helpers.
- The game went to the first intermission tied 1-1 with Marshall making 16 first period saves.
- AU's only even strength goal of the game came 5:25 into the second off the stick of Jaden Condotta. Jake Code and Procopio assisted on the go ahead tally.
- 2:30 later Trine scored to tie the game.
- The game was again tied at 2-2 going to the second intermission with Marshall making 12 saves in the second.
- 53 seconds into the third the Spartans went to another power play.
- Just over a minute in, Jaunich scored the second pp goal of the game on assists from Tyler Pang and Boyko.
- The AU lead was short though as 43 seconds later Trine scored to tie the game up 3-3.
- With 2:26 left in the third, Trine was caught for too many men on the ice, sending AU to another power play.
- As 36 seconds remained on the extra skater, Juliano Santalucia found the back of the net. Jaunich and
Adam Keyes assisted on the power play tally and eventual game winning goal.
- The final 53 seconds had Trine with an extra skater with an empty net but no shots on net would follow as AU won 4-3.
