Spartans out duel Muskies and win in shutout win

The Aurora University Spartan football team battled mother nature and the Lakeland University Muskies at Spartan Athletic Park on Saturday afternoon. The gusting winds and Muskies both proved unable to slow the AU attack as the Spartans racked up 611 yards of offense and a shutout from the defense on the way to a 68-0 win.

How it happened
- The Spartan forced a Lakeland punt and on the second AU possession the offense marched 84 yards in seven plays.
- Jhe'Quay Chretin carried the load on the drive, rushing four times for 62 yards including the 36-yard scamper into the endzone.
- AU led 6-0 following a missed PAT into the gusting winds.
- The defense stoned Lakeland again with the offense grinding out a 14-play drive covering 70 yards. Josh Swanson found Michael Boland on an 11-yard pitch and catch.
- After the successful pat try, AU led 13-0 which was the score after one quarter
- The Spartan defense again stopped Lakeland and on the first play from scrimmage Swanson hit Ty Pruett streaking wide open over the middle. Pruett sprinted past the Lakeland secondary 45 yards to the endzone and AU led 20-0.
- On the next AU possession the offense needed two plays, with Swanson and Pruett connecting again, this time for 57 yards.
- Early in the second, AU led 27-0.
- Another fourth down stop for the Spartan defense gave the offense the ball deep in Muskie land. Chretin carried the ball five times for 26 yards and resulting in a touchdown and 34-0 AU lead.
- The Spartans had three incompletions on the next offensive drive with Austin Wielgosz coming on to try a 56-yard field goal. His attempt fell just short
- The AU scoring was not done in the half though.
- AU got the ball back with just under a minute to play in the first-half and went 59-yards in five plays and 36 seconds for a score.
- A screen to Ta'vion Geanes on the first play went for 30 yards, two completions to Cameron Moore and Pruett put the Spartans first and goal.
- Swanson found a wide open Michael Boland in the endzone and AU led 41-0 after the successful pat from Matthew Hylek.
- AU led 41-0 going to halftime.
- The Spartans attempted field goals from 47 and 52 yards that went wide right and wide left to open the second-half.
- On the third possession after a third straight defensive stop with one including a Cason Burress interception the offense got back to scoring touchdowns.
- Chretin carried the drive with three rushes for 41 yards and his third score of the game.
- Geanes took over the rushing attack on the next drive with a run of 68 yards and seven to cap off the two play 75 yards scoring drive. Late in the third, AU led 55-0.
- In the fourth quarter, Geanes capped off his day with a 10-yard gain to surpass the 100-yard mark.
- Later on, Zack Russell scored on a 10-yard run and Armando Mireles scored from 19 yards to give AU all the scoring they would need at 68-0.
- Three kneel downs in the final minutes capped off the AU 68-0 victory.
