Spartan men sweep Trine in NCHA opener

The Aurora University men's hockey team returned to the ice for game two of a weekend conference matchup against Trine University. The Spartans completed the sweep over the Thunder with a 5-3 victory.

How it happened
- The Spartans and Thunder played to a scoreless first period despite both teams having multiple shots on goal.
- AU struck first 7:13 into the second-period. Spartan Giovanni Procopio tallied his first goal of the night on assists from Tyler Pang and Simon Boyko. 
- Trine answered back 10 minutes later to tie the contest 1-1.
- With eight seconds remaining in the second-period, Simon Boyko found the back of the Thunder net to give the Spartans a 2-1 lead before heading into the second intermission. 
- The third-period saw both teams offense come alive. Spartan Anthony Yurkins extended the Spartans lead 3-1 when he tallied his first goal of the season. Yurkins was assisted by Jake Onstott and Samuel Harris.
- Trine responded with back-to-back goals to tie the contest 3-3.
- Jack Jaunich joined in on the scoring action to give the Spartans a 4-3 lead with less than three minutes remaining in the contest. Derrick Budz and Tyler Pang recorded the assists.
- With a 1:30 left in the third, Trine pulled their goalie for an extra skater.
- With 1:20 on the clock, Giovanni Procopio dumped in a shot on an assist from Matt Weber at the empty net for his second goal of the day. 
- AU won by a final score of 5-3.
