Spartan women open home weekend frenzy with shutout

Box Score The Aurora University women's hockey team opened up the home weekend battle against Lawrence University with 5-0 shutout.

RECORDS: Aurora University 8-1-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the NCHA; Lawrence University 1-9 overall and 0-3 in the NCHA.

How it happened
 - Midway through the first period, two Spartan penalties led to 3v5 play, but AU goalie Samantha Steciak kept the Vikings from finding the back of the net. 
 - The Spartans and Vikings played to a scoreless first period with AU outshooting Lawrence 16-5. 
 - 6:43 into the second period, AU's top scorer Darci Matson got the Spartans on the board. Matson was assisted by Julianna Gallenero
 - With less than two minutes remaining in the second period, Julianna Gallenero extended the Spartans lead 2-0 on an assist from Olivia Buzzelli.
 - The Spartans added to their lead midway through the third period. Madison Gasper recorded the tally on an assist from Darci Matson
 - Late in the third period,the Spartans scored back to back goals. 
 - Gasper and Matson duo struck first in the 17th minute when Gasper recorded her second tally of the night on an assist from Darci Matson.
 - Less than a minute later, Mak Cooke joined in on the scoring action to give the Spartans a 5-0 lead. She was assisted by Madison Gasper and Darci Matson.
 - The Spartans would go on to complete the 5-0 shutout.
