AU dominates battle of Spartans

The Aurora University men's lacrosse team opened the 2022 season in a battle of Spartans with the University of Dubuque. The AU Spartans were dominant in winning 15-3.

- The first 10 minutes of the opening quarter were scoreless between AU and Dubuque.
- AU struck first with 4:57 left in the quarter when Ben Strub scored his first collegiate goal on an assist from Andy Trenary.
- Seconds later AU went to a man-up but just after time expired on the 30 second extra-man, the Spartans scored. Carson Leader found the twine with an assist from Brody MacDonald.
- 47 seconds later, Brody MacDonald scored an unassisted tally and AU led 3-0.
- The AU lead grew to 5-0 with a pair of goals just seconds a part. Trenary and MacDonald scored the goals.
- Dubuque got on the board with 7:11 left in the second quarter.
- With 2:20 to go, Trenary scored his second of the day.
- On the man-up in the final minute, the Spartans of Aurora scored again. Zach Bernstein scored with an assist from Reilan Pura.
- AU led 7-1 going to halftime.
- AU scored all four goals in the third quarter to open up an 11-1 lead. Third quarter goals came from Trenary (two), Strub and Andrew Bittner
- The Spartans scored four more times in the fourth with Pura scoring twice, Leader and Dylan MacDonald adding the goals.
- Dubuque scored twice but the Spartans of AU were dominant in their season debut, winning 15-3.
- AU goalie Phillip Gianelle was strong in goal for the win, making five saves.
