Spartans sweep Big Blue of Millikin

The Aurora University baseball team took on another conference champion from the 2021 season on Sunday, this time the Big Blue from Millikin University. For the second consecutive weekend, the Spartans swept the series, this time defeating Millikin 11-0 (7 innings) and 6-4.

How it happened
Game One
- The Spartans wasted no time in scoring in the first game as two batters in and they led 1-0.
- Corey Vondra led off with a single and scored on a Jett Wedekind double. With two outs, Wedekind scored on a fielding error by the center fielder and the Spartans led 2-0.
- Back to back singles from Jack Seefeldt and Nick Baldassano set up the Spartans in the second. With two outs and the pair on first and third, they pulled off the perfectly executed walk-off with Seefeldt scoring the third run of the day.
- Spartan starter Jack Fisher allowed the only hit of the game he would surrender in the third inning. He would toss six innings of scoreless baseball while striking out nine.
- A lead-off walk for Baldassano in the fifth started a two run inning. Vondra and Justin Sartori singled in the inning with Baldassano and Wedekind scoring runs.
- The sixth inning produced six runs for the Spartans, all coming with two outs. Nico Bermeo got the inning started with a single before two outs followed.
- A three-run double from Wedekind pushed the AU lead to 8-0.
- A Millikin pitching change and a walk to Dylan White set up Justin Sartori. Sartori deposited a long home run to left and the Spartans led 11-0.
- Fisher and Alec Strupp set down the Big Blue in the sixth and seventh for the 11-0 mercy rule win in seven innings.

How it happened
Game Two 
- Millikin scored first in game two, with an error allowing a run to cross the plate.
- The game remained 1-0 going to the fourth inning. But in the fourth, the Spartan bats ignited. A single from Colin Meinert was followed by Nico Bermeo reaching with a hit by pitch. 
- With two on, Jacob Ambuel blasted a three-run jack and AU led 3-1.
- Nick Malmberg tossed four innings and was lifted in the fifth inning for Bryce Miller.
- In the sixth, Jack Seefeldt doubled in Ambuel for a 4-1 AU lead.
- The Spartans added two big runs in the eighth inning with Corey Vondra tripling in Seefeldt and Ambuel for a 6-1 advantage.
- Millikin would score three runs in the ninth inning and brought the tying run to the plate against Skyler Yamamoto.
- Yamamoto would strike out the final Big Blue batter of the game and AU won 6-4.
