History made as Spartans win Slaats Cup Championship

The Aurora University women's hockey team is NCAA Tournament bound after a dominating 5-1 victory in the 2021-2022 NCHA Slaats Cup Playoff Championship over St, Norbert College.A four goal third period pushed the Spartans into celebration mode and the NCAA field for the first time in program history.

Beyond the Box
- AU wins the Slaats Cup for the first time in the fifth year of the program's existence.
- The Spartans will advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time.
- Spartan senior Goalie Chiara Pfosi was named the Slaats Cup Most Valuable Player
- Pfosi, Darci Matson, Olivia Matson and Marisa Trevino were named to the Slaats Cup All-Tournament Team

How it happened
- The first period was scoreless with both Spartan Chiara Pfosi and her St. Nobert goalie foe coming up with five saves.
- Midway through the second period, the Spartans struck. Peyton Elliott scored for the 21st time on the season.
- 45 seconds into the third period, Marisa Trevino put AU up 2-0. Mak Cooke had the helper.
- Just over three minutes later, St. Norbert scored to end the shutout bid and the scoreless streak of Chiara Pfosi ended at 167:23, an incredible run for the AU netminder.
- Four minutes after the SNC goal, AU and Elliott answered back. Elliott fired a shot from the far dot that found its way into the net for a 3-1 AU lead.
- The Elliott goal gave the Spartans a much needed energy boost as AU took control of the contest.
- With 7:23 left in the game, Trevino scored her second goal of the day on the power play for a 4-1 AU lead.
- Spartan Darci Matson added an empty net goal with 3:52 remaining in the game and the celebration was on.
- AU celebrated a 5-1 victory and a NCHA Slaats Cup Championship.
