Unseasonably cool temperatures and the Aurora University baseball team welcomed the Edgewood College Eagles to Jim Schmid Field on Sunday afternoon. The cold temps and Edgewood EAgles were no match for the hot Spartan offense who swept the games scoring 32 runs, going 18-of-31 with runners in scoring position in 18-3 and 14-4 seven inning wins.

GAME ONE
- The game was scoreless through the first two innings
- In the bottom of the third, the Spartan bats woke up. Three walks, a hit by pitch and four hits produced five runs.

Nico Bermeo got the scoring started with a bases clearing triple to right center. He then scored on a sac fly from
Justin Sartori. Later in the inning,
Jett Wedekind singled and scored on a single from
Jacob Ambuel and AU led 5-0.
- In the fourth, Edgewood took advantage of two walks with three singles to score three runs and AU led 5-3.
- The Spartans put the game to rest in the bottom half of the inning. with two hit by pitches, a single and a ground out scoring one run. A walk to Wedekind loaded the bases before the second out was made by a strikeout. Eight consecutice hits followed, a three run double from
Jacob Ambuel, a single from
Collin Meinert which followed with a double steal of second and home by Ambuel and Meinert. Run scoring hits then came from
Jack Seefeldt (single),
Sean Rivera (triple),
Corey Vondra (ground-rule double),
Nico Bermeo (single),
Justin Sartori (double) and
Jett Wedekind (single) before a
Dylan White walk on four pitches not near the zone for him to continue the hit parade.Â
- When the fourth ended, AU led 16-3.
- The Spartans added one run each in the fifth and sixth for the eventual 18-3 win.

Jack Fisher battled the elements, Eagles and long innings sitting in his own dugout for the win while
Jacob Welbes tossed the final two innings in relief.

GAME TWO
- AU trailed 1-0 after 1/2 inning, the first time they had trailed on the day.
- A one out triple in the second from
Jacob Ambuel was followed by a single to center from
Collin Meinert and the game was knotted 1-1.
- Edgewood would have two, two hit innings in the game with the second in the third to produce another run.
- The deficit did not last long for AU though as
Corey Vondra destroyed the first pitch he saw to start the bottom of the third, well over the left center field fence to tie the game.
- The Spartans would score three more times in the inning with a two-run double from
Dylan White being the big base knock.
- In the fourth,
Jett Wedekind walked with two outs, stole second and then scored on a double from
Jacob Ambuel to a 6-2 AU lead.
- A lead-off double and two ground outs produced the third run of the game in the fifth for Edgewood.
- The Spartans added four more runs in the bottom of the fifth. With two runs in already and
Justin Sartori on first,
Jett Wedekind stepped to the plate. Wedekind listened to a wise fan in the stands and uncorked a long home run to left field and AU led 10-3.
- AU added to the lead in the bottom of the sixth with run scoring singles from Brendan Naylor and
Sean Rivera.
- Edgewood looked to avoid the mercy rule with a solo home run in the top of the seventh.
- In the bottom half of the inning, Wedekind walked with one out and nearly scored from first on a double from
Dylan White but was thrown out at the plate.
- The next batter,
Jacob Ambuel singled to right with White scoring and ending the game by the mercy rule, 14-4.

Nick Malmberg earned the win with seven innings of work with several well fielded plays on the mound.
