Spartans out shine Stars in NACC sweep

Extra innings were needed in game one for the Aurora University baseball team but the Spartans survived to win 7-6 in 12 innings before going on to win game two 18-7 at Dominican University

How it happened
GAME ONE
- AU got the scoring started quickly with an infield single from Corey Vondra and he scored on a double from Nico Bermeo.
- Dylan White and Collin Meinert had run scoring singles and AU led 3-0.
- Dominican scored a run in the fourth and two in the sixth to tie the game 3-3.
- The hosts then scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to lead 5-3 heading to the Spartans final three outs.
- A lead-off walk to White and a double from Jacob Ambuel started the ninth. White and Ambuel scored on a sac fly and a ground out to tie the game.
- The game remained knotted at 5 into the 11th when White led off with a solo home run to left.
- Dominican managed to tie the game in the bottom of 11 with a two-out single.
- AU answered back to take the lead again in the 12th. Corey Vondra led off with a double, moved to third on a fly-out and scored on a ground out from Justin Sartori.
- Skyler Yamamoto struck out two in his fifth inning of relief work for the win as AU won 7-6.

How it happened
GAME TWO
- AU scored first in game two with a three-run second. Singles from Jett Wedekind and Jacob Ambuel with a walk to Dylan White led to the three runs.
- As AU starter Bryce Miller was setting the Stars down with 12 strikeouts in 5-2.3 innings of work, the AU bats got back to work in the fourth.
- The second inning grouping of Wedekind (double), White (single) and Ambuel (walk) along with a DU error and Vondra sac fly led to four AU runs in the fourth and they led 7-0.
- Two walks and another Ambuel single along with a Collin Meinert sac fly led two a pair of Spartan runs in the fifth and a 9-0 lead.
- In the sixth, Wedekind drove in Vondra with a sac fly and the mercy rule lead of 10-0 was possibly in play.
- Dominican would get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth with four hits and a walk for a 10-3 AU lead.
- The Spartans put the mercy rule back on the table in the seventh with three runs on five hits with a double from Ambuel and four singles.
- A two-out single to score a run in the bottom of the seventh kept the game going for Dominican.
- An error to start the inning for Dominican in the eighth eventually led to a pair of unearned runs and the AU lead was cut to 13-6.
- AU batted around in the ninth, scoring five runs on just three hits while also reaching on a hit by pitch, two walks and a Star error.
- The Spartans would go on to win 18-7 and sweep the doubleheader.
