Spartans to host NCAA first round for first time in program history

The Aurora University football team is headed to the NCAA Division III Football Championship for the eighth time in program history and fourth consecutive season the NCAA has held a playoff. The 2023 NCAA Division III playoff will be a historic one though for the Spartan football program as AU will host a game for the first time.

The Spartans received a Pool A berth as they finished the regular season with another program record 10-0 overall record and went a perfect 8-0 to win the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championship.
 
The Spartans will host Coe College (9-1, 7-1 ARC) at Spartan Athletic Park in Montgomery, Illinois on Saturday, November 18. Game time has been set for a 12:00 p.m. kickoff.  This will be the fifth meeting all-time between the two football programs with Coe holding a 4-0 record. The last meeting came in the 2007 season with Coe defeating AU 37-7 on the old AU Field on campus..

AU football, under the direction of Head Coach Don Beebe and in his fifth season at the helm, makes a trip to the NCAA Division III Football Championship appearance for the fourth consecutive season.

AU is led by an offense that ranks second in scoring at 58.4 per game and sixth in total offense (520.9 yards per game).  Defensively the Spartans rank 20th in total defense (250.5 yards per game) and eighth in scoring defense allowing 10.4 points per game.
