The Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) announced the 2023 Men's Soccer postseason awards and All-Conference Teams on Thursday. AU was led by
Enrique Gonzalez as the NACc Offensive Player of the Year and
Julian Orozco Freshman of the Year. Gonzalez and Orozco were joined by six additional teammates to earn All-NACC honors.
Gonzalez earned the top NACC offensive award after was the league's top offensive threat this season. Playing in all 21 of the Spartans' contests, he recorded 50 points on 22 goals and six assists - leading the NACC in both points and goals and setting a new Aurora single-season scoring mark. Four of Gonzalez's goals were game-winners, while he was a perfect 8-for-8 on penalty-kick attempts.
He also led all NACC players in shots (90) and shots on goal (48), averaging 4.29 shots per contest. Gonzalez scored goals in 13 of 21 games, including multiple goals on seven occasions and hat tricks against both Lakeland (Sept. 30) and Illinois Tech (Oct. 11). Through Oct. 31, he ranks third nationally in goals, fourth in points, 11th in points per game (2.38), 12th in goals per game (1.05), 18th in shots per game, and 19th in shots on goal per game (2.29). Gonzalez is the first AU men's soccer player to be named NACC Offensive Player of the Year.
Orozco earned the NACC Freshman of the Year honor after being a main contributor to the AU defense that allowed 1.48 goals per game overall and 0.92 goals per game in NACC play. In 2023 the Spartans had four shutouts and allowed one goal or fewer in 12 contests. Orozco is the second AU student-athlete to be named NACC Freshman of the Year, joining Henry Zehnal in 2017.
Joining Gonzalez and Orozco in earning NACC First-Team All-Conference recognition are goalkeeper
Jalen Depenbrock, midfielder
Jaziel Enriquez and forward
Anthony Marmolejo. Depenbrock landed the NACC honor recording 76 saves for a 13-3-4 overall record. He had a 1.34 goals against average and a .752 save percentage. Enriquez tallied 11 goals and eight assists from his midfield position in his first season as a Spartan. He had two game-winning goals and was a perfect three-of-three in penalty kick chances. Marmolejo led the Spartans with 12 assists while adding nine goals with two coming as game-winning goals.
Second-Team NACC honors went to freshman defender
Max Crawford and senior midfielder
Gio Villegas. Crawford was another key member of the AU defense while he added three goals and an assist with two of his three goals coming as game-winners. Villegas tallied six goals and four assists from his midfield slot.
Rounding out the AU all-conference honorees is honorable mention selection freshman midfielder
Omar Saldana. Saldana tallied four goals and six assists in his first season as a Spartan.
The Spartan men's soccer team finished the 2023 season with a 14-3-4 overall record and finished as 2023 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Co-Champions with a 10-0-2 NACC record. The NACC title is the second consecutive for the Spartans.
