Spartans Top Trinity Christian ahead of holiday break

The Aurora University women's basketball team hosted Trinity Christian College for a Thursday morning non-conference match-up on Lancaster Court in Thorton Gymnasium. Macy Kocen led all scorers with 21 points off seven three-pointers, six of which came in the first half, to help guide the Spartans to a 77-65 victory.

How it happened
- AU came out firing from three-point range to take a 19-6 lead through the first six minutes.
- The Spartans ended the first quarter with 25-16 lead after going 7-12 from behind the arc.
- Macy Kocen had the AU offense rolling early after nailing four three-pointers in the first frame.
- The Spartan defense held the Trolls to just 31% shooting in the first quarter.
- Another Kocen trey halted an 11-0 Trolls run at the 6:26 mark of the second quarter, giving AU a 28-26 lead. 
- The second frame saw Gabrielle Wolff catch fire from the mid-range to help extend the Spartan lead back to double digits.
- AU finished the first half on an 18-4 run to take a 43-30 lead into the halftime locker room.
- Kocen netted 18 points to lead all scorers, with Wolff collecting 13 to go along with five rebounds.
- The Trolls only led for nine seconds in the first half after AU held them to just 29% shooting.
- The Spartans converted 15 points off turnovers with the Trolls only coming up with eight in the first two quarters.
- AU went cold to start the second half, not getting their first points until 5:36 into the third off a pair of Sam Barrett free throws.
- Barrett was the catalyst for the Spartan offense, scoring five of AU's eight third quarter points.
- Selena Vargas was the only other Spartan to get on the board in the third, as AU netted all of their points in the frame from the charity stripe.
- The Spartans hung on to a 49-48 lead going into the fourth quarter.
- AU got back into offensive rhythm to start the fourth, going on a 10-2 run.
- Kocen knocked down her seventh triple to put AU up 69-62 with 1:30 left.
- AU did not miss a free throw in the fourth quarter as the Trolls started to foul, sealing the deal for a 77-65 victory.
- Wolff nearly finished with a double double after collecting 20 points and nine rebounds.
- Delani Kosner, Eliot Dojutrek, and Kocen each finished with a pair of blocks.
