Spartans advance in Slaats Cup Playoffs

The Aurora University women's hockey team returned back to the ice for game two of 2022-2023 NCHA Slaats Cup Playoffs against Trine University Saturday afternoon. The Spartans defeated the Thunder to advance to the semi round in the Slaats Cup Playoffs.

LOCATION: Fox Valley Ice Arena - Geneva, Illinois
RECORDS: Aurora University 21-4-1 overall , Trine University 8-17-0 overall 

How it happened 
- The Spartans scored two goals in the opening period. 
- AU had 13 shots on goal before Darci Matson stole the puck and passed to Marisa Trevino who tipped it in to make it a 1-0 contest. 
- Not long after, Ellie Visser scored her second of the series with a back hand tally to extend the Spartans lead 2-0. Darci Matson and Mak Cooke recorded the assists. 
- With 18 seconds remaining in the second period, Darci Matson recorded her 30th goal of the season with an even strength forehand tally. Matson was assisted by Ava Eid.
- The Spartans led 3-0 heading into the final intermission.
- To open the third, Bethany Koman found the back of the Thunder net on a pass from Rachel Campoli. AU led 4-0 with 17:14 left on the clock.
- The Thunder would respond with their only goal of the game.
- In the final minutes,  Darci Matson scored her second tally of the night.
-The Spartans would go on to win 5-1 and advance to the semifinals of the Slaats Cup Playoffs.

Next action for the Spartan women's hockey team comes on Friday, March 3 when they travel to the semi-final round of the NCHA Slaats Cup playoffs. AU will travel to Adrian College and take on St. Nobert College with puck drop set for 7:00 p.m. (est) / 6:00 p.m. (cst) in Adrian, Michigan.
