Spartans extend win streak to five with victory over Sabres

The Aurora University women's hockey to the road Friday night for a NCHA match-up against Marian University. The Spartans defeated the Sabres 5-2 to take game one of the conference weekend series.

How it happened 
- The Spartans and Sabres played to a scoreless first period. 
- A 1:40 into the second period, Darci Matson scored a power play tally on assists from Ava Eid and Marisa Trevino.
- Not long after, Spartan Haley Knauf found the back of the net on a pass from Erin Campbell and the Spartans led 2-0.
- Marian cut their deficit a minute later with an even strength tally. 
- Erin Campbell joined in on the scoring action with an unassisted tally. AU headed into the second intermission leading 3-1.
- The Sabres brought themselves back within one with 11:24 remaining on the clock in the third period.
- Less than three minutes later, a pass from Darci Matson found the stick of Makenna Brownlee who buried the shot in the back of the net. AU extended their lead 4-2.
- With 1:06 remaining, Melina Cane scored and the Spartans were victorious 5-2.
