Bats come alive in game one as Spartans split non conference doubleheader

The Aurora University softball team traveled to North Central College for a non-conference matchup Tuesday afternoon. The Spartans split the doubleheader winning game one 12-0 (5 inn.) and falling in game two 6-5 in the bottom of the 7th.

How it happened
Game One 
- AU struck first, scoring two in the opening frame. Jemma Fiehweg led off with a hit by pitch and scored on a Cardinal error. Faith Biggs reached on a single and would later score on a Lexi Rayborn double.  
- After the Rayborn double, NCC made a pitching change but that wouldn't stop the AU offensive outburst.
- The Spartans added three runs in the second on a bases clearing double from Ashley Talaga
- In the third, Tyler Chambers, Shelby Linn, and Jemma Fiehweg drove in runs and AU led 8-0. 
- A scoreless frame from Madelyn Buske in the bottom half of the third set up the offense to add three in the fourth.
- Faith Biggs started the inning reaching on a walk and later scored on an error. Later in the inning, with two outs, pinch hitter Emma Lytton singled up the middle to score Delilah Aguirre and Reese Pozen
- In the fifth, pinch hitter Emma Bachio drove in Alex Thiel and AU headed to the bottom half leading 12-0.  
- Madelyn Buske dominated in the circle, only giving up three hits while picking up the shutout win.

How it happened
Game Two 
- The Spartans jumped out early in the first inning, when Jemma Fiehweg led off with a double to right field and scored on a single from Kionna King.
- North Central evened the scoring in the bottom of the second. 
- In the third, Alex Thiel started the rally with a double to left center. With one out, Kionna King hit a run scoring double to allow the Spartans to retake the lead. Ashley Talaga followed with another double to score King. AU led 3-1.
- The Cardinals took advantage of a Spartan error and added one in the bottom half of the frame. 
- In the bottom of the sixth, the Cardinals tied the game 3-3 on one hit.
- AU retook the lead once again, scoring two in the seventh. Jemma Fiehweg led off the inning with a single to left field. Ashley Talaga followed with a double to score Fiehweg. With two outs, Tyler Chambers hit an RBI single that drove in Talaga.
- The bottom half of the inning saw the Cardinals score three runs on four hits and one Spartan error to take a 6-5 lead.
- With two outs, the Spartans were unable to get out of the inning and fell 6-5.
