Spartans shutout Thunder in non-conference sweep

The Aurora University softball team took a break from NACC action and traveled to Wheaton College for a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon. The Spartans kept the Thunder from bringing across a run and swept the doubleheader 13-0 (game one) and 9-0 (game two), both ending in five innings.

How it happened
Game One 
- The Spartans started the scoring in the top of the third. Four hits and one Thunder error scored four runs with RBI's coming from Kionna King, Ashley Talaga, and Faith Biggs
- In the inning, with bases loaded and one out, Kionna King hit a hard grounder to shortstop that caused an error that allowed Jemma Fiehweg to score. Talaga followed and doubled to left center to bring in Chambers and pitch runner Reese Pozen.  Kionna King later scored on a sac fly from Faith Biggs.
- The AU offense went back to work, scoring nine runs in the fifth. The inning got started with three consecutive singles from Ashley Talaga, Alex Thiel, and Faith Biggs before a two-run double from Delilah Aguirre. Pitch hitter Aly Haegele singled to score Biggs and a Thunder error allowed Delilah Aguirre to come across. 
- Lexi Rayborn and Kionna King both recorded RBI's before Ashley Talaga rounded out the hit parade with a three run bomb to left center. 
- The run rule came into play as AU defeated the Thunder 13-0 in game one.

How it happened
Game Two 
- The Spartans jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning with Jemma Fiehweg and Tyler Chambers both reaching via walks. A run scoring single from Lexi Rayborn drove in Fiehweg. Rayborn later scored on a single from Alex Thiel.
- A lead off home run from Delilah Aguirre started the scoring for the Spartans in the second. A couple of Thunder errors allowed the Spartans to bring in two runs before Ashley Talaga drove Kionna King for the final run of the frame.
- Heading into the bottom half, AU led 6-0.
- The Spartans brought in one when Tyler Chambers singled to right field to score Reese Pozen.
- Delilah Aguirre led off the fifth with a double to right center and would come around to score on a single from Jemma Fiehweg. Pitch hitter Shelby Linn brought in the final run with a sac fly to score Fiehweg. 
- With the nine run lead, AU had their second run shortened game of the day, winning 9-0.

Next scheduled action for the Spartan softball team comes on Saturday, April 22 when they are scheduled to host Wisconsin Lutheran College. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Bedrosian Stadium in Montgomery, Illinois.
