Aurora University sophomore women's wrestler
Alexis Janiak claimed the bronze medal in the U20 59 kg class at the 2023 World Championships in Amman, Jordan.
The bronze medal while well deserved was not without controversy as Janiak was defeated in the semi-final round on a controversial call that saw a challenge at the end of the match go against Janiak and Team USA and resulting in a 9-8 loss. Challenge information from the match from FloWrestling -

In the opener of the World Championship for Janiak, she defeated Serbia's Jovana Radivojevic by tech fall and then pinned Annatina Lippuner from Switzerland in the quarterfinal round. The two quick victories set up the would be controversial semi-final round match with the current U20 European champion Aurora Russo of Italy. Janiak would fall 9-8 with the controversial final point challenge.
In the bronze medal match with Elena Kurova, Janiak won 11-0 by tech fall for the victory.

Janiak now returns home and back to AU where her and her Spartan teammates will begin preparation for the 2023-2024 season which opens on Saturday, November 4 when they travel to the Pointer Open at the University of Wisconsin Stevens-Point with a 9:00 a.m. start time..
