The Aurora University Spartan football team gave the home crowd at Homecoming 2023 plenty to celebrate with a 70-10 victory over Eureka College on Saturday afternoon. After falling behind 7-0 early in the game, the Spartans rattled off 49 straight points to lead 49-10 at halftime and the eventual 50-10 final score.

- Eureka won the coin toss and elected to receive. The Red Devils used a 48-yard trick play pass from receiver to receiver to set up a first and goal. On the second play they would score to go ahead 7-0.
- After a short kickoff set up the Spartan offense at their own 43, AU needed just 1:50 and five plays to tie the game.

Ian Luyando hit a wide open
Ty Pruett and following the
Matthew Hylek extra point, the game was tied 7-7.
- The AU defense then gave the ball back to the offense two plays later on an interception by
Ben Slatcoff at the Eureka 28.
- A long run from Luyando set up a first and goal to go. On the next play an alert Anthony Peterson jumped on a loose fumble to preserve the drive.

Jhe'Quay Chretin then scampered into the end zone from 10-yards out on the following play for a 14-7 AU lead.
- The defense forced a three-and-out and on the first play Luyando hit a wide open
Ty Pruett for the second time on the day, this time for 60-yards and AU led 21-7.
- The AU scoring was just getting started though as the defense forced another punt and the AU special teams got in on the scoring.

James Mautino took the Eureka punt at the 35-yard line and danced his way 65-yards to pay dirt and a 28-7 lead.
- AU would lead 28-7 after one quarter of play.
- On the first play of the second quarter the Spartans scored again, this time Luyando hit a wide open
Trey Madsen from 34-yards out and AU led 35-7.
- After another Eureka punt, the Spartans struck quickly again. Luyando hit
Connor Bright with Bright fully extending his arms for a one-handed catch and run. 56-yards later AU led 42-7.
- Yet another punt forced but the AU defense turned into more points for the Spartans. AU ground out 10-plays and 65-yards in 4:57 to take a 49-7 lead. Luyando hit Madsen once again (21 yards) for the score.
- Eureka managed to drive on their final possession of the first-half, aided by a pair of AU 15-yard penalties. On the final play of the half, Eureka converted a 34-yard field goal.
- AU led 49-10 going to halftime.
- In the third quarter the Spartans would score three more times on all three of their offensive possessions.
- Luyando connected with Pruett for a third time on the first drive from 13 yards out.
- Chretin scored on a 24-yard run on the second possession.
- After an
Ernesto Ramirez interception gave AU the ball for a third time, Jon Alstott had two carries for 17 yards for a score.
