Third period lull hands Spartans loss at #12 Trine

The Aurora University men's hockey team continued their series with the Thunder of Trine University with another NCHA battle on Saturday afternoon. With the scored tied at three going into the final period, the Spartans saw themselves get outscored by the 12th ranked Thunder 5-1 in the frame and lose the match-up 8-4.

How it happened
- The Spartans headed to the power play 12:12 into the game and capitalized on the extra skating opportunity.
- Chase Broda lit the lamp for the power play goal with assists from Chayce Schmidt and Jake Code to give AU a 1-0 lead.
- Trine answered the Spartans about two minutes later in the first with a power play goal of their own.
- This took the score to 1-1 going into the first intermission.
- Jakson Kirk put AU up 2-1 just 32 seconds into the second after an even strength goal with Juliano Santalucia and Schmidt once again on the assisting end.
- Trine found the equalizer about two minutes later.
- With four minutes to go in the second, Trine found the back of the net for a 3-2 lead.
- The Spartans quickly answered thanks to Broda's second goal of the game. Tyler Pang and Santalucia set up Broda to knot the score at 3.
- The score would remain at 3 each side going to the final period.
- The hosts would score three straight goals to start the third seeing AU fall to a 6-3 deficit.
- Pang recorded his second point of the night almost fourteen minutes into the third by finding the back of the net for his first goal of the season. Hassan Akl and Broda were credited with assists on the play.
- Trine would tack on two more goals to defeat AU 8-4.
