Spartans pick up first win in 2024

The Aurora University women's hockey team earned their first victory in 2024 at Northland College on Sunday afternoon. AU scored three first period goals on the way to a 4-1 road win.

How it happened 
- The Spartans headed to the power play 1:28 into the game and capitalized on the extra skating opportunity.
- Peyton Elliott lit the lamp for the power play goal with an assist from Rachel Campoli.
- Shortly after killing off a penalty, the Spartans struck again.
- This time Darci Matson scored her second of the weekend with assists from Madison Gasper and Erin Campbell.
- 55 seconds later, Stephanie Schmunk put AU ahead 3-0. Ellie Visser assisted on the third AU goal of the period.
- The second period saw the Spartans out shoot Northland 17-5 but the score remained 3-0.
- Early in the third the Spartans killed off a penalty but 14 seconds after going to even strength, Northland scored to break up the shutout chance.
- 11:03 into the third, Darci Matson scored for the second time in the game to put AU ahead 4-1. Schmunk and Melina Cane had assists.
- Tia Glube would pick up the win in net, stopping 22 of the 23 shots sent her direction.
