The Aurora University Women's cross country team competed in the gold race at the Interregional Invitational hosted by Augustana College. The team scored 652 points to finish 26th in a competitive field.
Deedee Colon Maldonado finished third in the race of 355. She finished with a time of 21:18.0, which sets a new NACC record for 6K. The previous record of 21:20.2 was set in 2016 by Aurora's Jackie Schane. Maldonado has not placed outside of the top five in any of her races yet this season.Â
Aurora's second finisher was N'dya Fields, with a time of 23:43.4.
Third across the line for the Spartans was Savannah Vazquez, who finished in 23:48.2. This time marked a 30 second personal-best for Vazquez.
Alex Gonzalez finished fourth for the Spartans in a time of 24:28.7. Emma Jasutis was the fifth Spartan across the line, finishing in 25:23.7.
Mia Luna and Mika Fields rounded out the top seven for Aurora, with times of 25:39.7 and 25:43.6, respectively.
AU also had 4 women compete in the blue race. They were led by Isabella Encinas, with a time of 27:17.0.
The next race for the Spartan Cross Country team comes on Saturday, November 2nd as they run at the NACC Conference Meet hosted by Milwaukee School of Engineering. The meet is at Northwestern Medicine XC Course in Geneva, Ill.
