Gonzalez breaks all-time goal record in Spartans rout of Eagles

The Aurora University men's soccer team saw its all-time goal record broken on Wednesday night as Enrique Gonzalez scored two goals to reach 60 for his career in AU's 7-1 win over Benedictine. With the victory, AU solidifies itself as the number four seed in next week's Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference tournament. Watch the record setting goal here.

How it happened
- It took less than three minutes for AU to grab the early 1-0 lead. Nick Fiet passed one Jaziel Enriquez who struck a ball about 50 yards to Josue Roman, as he found space and eventually the back of the net.
- Antonio Herrera picked up back-to-back saves in the 12th and 13th minute to keep the Eagles scoreless.
- Benedictine did get on the board in the 21st minute to tie the game at one.
- This 1-1 score would hold going into the intermission, as Herrera totaled five saves in the first half.
- The Spartans went on a scoring frenzy in the second half, starting with Enrique Gonzalez's 59th career goal which tied the AU all-time career goal record. This made it 2-1 in favor of the Spartans, Enriquez assisted Gonzalez on the play.
- About 12 minutes later, Enriquez scored his own goal off a set-up from Walter Delapaz. This stretched the AU lead to 3-1.
- In the 58th minute, Omar Saldana struck a corner kick that found the back of the net off the body of an Eagle player. This allowed AU to take a commanding 4-1 lead.
- Gonzalez broke AU's all-time goal record in 61st minute with his 60th career goal. Roman shifted around an Eagle defender and found Gonzalez all alone who rolled one into the bottom left corner of the net.

- AU made it 6-1 in the 70th minute when Isaac Jacobo got in on the scoring barrage. Roman assisted Jacobo for his second assist of the game.
- The Spartans added one more for good measure in the 78th minute when Jacobo assisted Diego Lugo to make it 7-1 AU.
- This 7-1 score would hold until the final buzzer.
