Spartans fend off Warriors in road NACCtion

The Aurora University Spartan football team used five touchdowns from reigning NACC Offensive Player of the Week Tyler Adkins as well as another dominant performance from their defense to pickup a 45-14 win at Wisonsin Lutheran College on Saturday afternoon. Trey Urwiler caught two of those Adkins touchdown passes, while Ta'vion Geanes and Zackery Russell each rushed for over 100 yards to help lead the Spartans to their third-straight victory.

How it happened
- The AU defense dominated the first quarter of action, forcing WLC to punt on all four possessions while allowing just 20 total yards on 10 offensive plays.
- On the first Spartan offensive possession, Tyler Adkins completed passes on the first and last play of the drive with the running game gashing 50 yards to set up the Adkins to Trey Urwiler touchdown for a 7-0 lead.
- The second AU drive started with a long completion to Zachery Russell for 44-yards but the drive stalled but resulted in a 36-yard field goal from Cooper Winslow and a 10-0 AU lead.
- AU took the 10-0 lead into the second quarter where they carried over a 14-play drive that went for 82-yards.
- The 14th play saw Adkins hit Robert Cooper from six-yards out and a 17-0 Spartan advantage.
- Another defensive stand for the AU defense allowed the Spartan offense to continue to put up points.
- Adkins connected with Steven Gonzalez this time as AU led 24-0.
- An interception set-up WLC in AU territory later in the second and the hosts capitalized and cut the AU lead to 24-7.
- On the final drive of the first-half, WLC threw up a hail-mary as time expired and the Lutherans were rewarded, coming down with a catch in the end-zone.
- Heading to halftime, AU led 24-14.
- A turnover on the opening possession of the second-half for the Spartans set up WLC again in AU territory but the AU defense locked down WLC and forced a turnover on downs.
- The AU run game settled in the Spartans on the ensuing drive, rushing for 58 of the 68-yard scoring drive. The final 11 yards coming on the feet of Ta'vion Geanes. His run put AU ahead 31-14.
- Late in the third quarter the Spartans added to their lead with Adkins hitting Connor Bright from five-yards out. 
- Heading to the fourth, AU led WLC 38-14.
- The third quarter saw AU out-gain WLC 158-3.
- The fourth quarter flew by with each team having just three possessions. AU had a turnover, touchdown and ended the game with a kneel down.
- The Spartan scoring drive came with another Adkins touchdown strike, a second of the day to Urwiler, this time from 17-yards.
- AU was victorious over the Warriors 45-14.
- On the day, the Spartans defense allowed just 214 total yards with only 46 coming on the ground.
