Spartans battle Edgewood to tie in home thriller

The Aurora University women's soccer team played to another draw on Wednesday night at Spartan Athletic Park, this time to the Eagles of Edgewood College by a score of 2-2. Wednesday marked AU's Mental Health Awareness Game as a moment of silence was taken before the match to honor Morgan Rodgers, a former Duke University Lacrosse student-athlete who died tragically in July 2019 after battling mental health struggles.

How it happened
- AU goalie Melina Cane had to fend off a total of 16 shots during the match, starting with one in the 10th minute to keep the score locked at zero.
- The Spartans got something going in the 32nd minute that allowed Cassie Garcia to put a shot on goal, but AU was unable to get on the board.
- With just over three minutes to go until the half, Edgewood took a 1-0 lead.
- AU would trail by that 1-0 score going into halftime.
- Edgewood applied pressure early again in the second half, but Cane came up with a save in the 55th, 56th, and 57th minute.
- AU tied the score shortly after when McKenna Kunz rifled one into the bottom left corner of the net past the Eagles goalie. Kunz was assisted Larissa Barreto and Lauren Bliefernicht on the play.
- In the 64th minute, the Eagles grabbed a 2-1 lead.
- Bliefernicht answered back in the 79th minute with her sixth goal of the season to tie the score at two. She was set-up by Madison Hougan and Cassie Garcia on the score.
- Hougan tried to put AU on top with just over a minute to go, but the Eagles goalie came up with the save.
- The match would end in a 2-2 draw.
