Spartans Tie in Season Home Opener

The Aurora University women's hockey team opened NCHA play at home on Friday night, hosting the Lake Forest College Foresters at Fox Valley Ice Arena. AU struck first, scoring just 1:19 into the game, but Lake Forest took the lead before the first intermission. The Spartans fought back in the second period, tying the game at 2-2. The contest turned into a nail-biter as it went into overtime and a shootout, where AU ultimately fell short in the shootout.

How it happened 
- The Spartans struck quickly in the first period, with Anabelle Scriver scoring just 1:19 into the game off an assist from Ellie Visser.
- Midway through the period, the Foresters netted the equalizer and, three minutes later, took a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal.
- The back-and-forth action continued into the second period until Zara Post brought the Spartans back into the game, scoring with an assist from Cara Cook.
- With less than two minutes remaining in the second period, Lake Forest went on a power play, but the Spartans defense held strong, preventing a goal and keeping the game tied at 2-2 heading into the second intermission.
- The third period remained tightly contested, with both teams exchanging opportunities. Despite six power-play chances late in the period, the Spartans were unable to convert, pushing the game into overtime.
- Overtime featured three-on-three hockey, with each team recording three shots on goal.
- The tension of the game rose as each team traded shots in the shootout, with both sides missing their attempts.
- Spartan goaltender Zoie Campbell made four incredible saves before the Foresters finally found the back of the net.
