Spartans Pickup Another Victory Before Senior Day Finale

Box Score The Aurora University men's basketball team traveled to Lakeland University on Wednesday night for another NACC showdown, with the Spartans looking to keep their conference tournament hopes alive against the Muskies. The second-half saw the Spartans easily pull away with the 82-62 victory, as Joevonn McCottry led all scorers with 21 points. AU dominated the glass 49-31 as Jeffery Hillmer came down with 18 boards in the contest. AU faces a win and get in scenario on Saturday when they host Dominican University.

How it happened
- Dwayne Jervier Jr. propelled AU to a 9-2 run to start the game after five early points.
- The Spartans took their first double-digit lead after a pair of Isaiah Davis free throws with 12 minutes to go in the first half. AU held an 18-7 advantage.
- As the Muskies started to climb back, back-to-back three pointers from Noah Butler gave the Spartans the momentum right back with a double-digit lead.
- AU grabbed their largest lead of the half with 3:36 left at 35-21 after a bucket from Joevonn McCottry.
- The Spartans took a 43-32 lead into the locker room.
- Jeffery Hillmer snagged 8 boards in the first-half.
- McCottry put on an offensive display in the first half with 14 points including a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. He also dished out five assists.
- Noah Butler was also perfect in the first half on 4-for-4 shooting from the field.
- AU picked up 11 bench points in the first half to just three for the hosts.
- The Spartans grabbed a 20-point lead after Jervier Jr. finished at the rim with 11 minutes to go. AU took a 66-46 lead.
- Jervier Jr. also gave AU their largest lead of the game with about two minutes to go at 80-55.
- Each team emptied their bench as the Spartans coasted to the 82-62 victory.
- Hillmer grabbed another 10 boards in the second half to finish with a game-high 18.
- Mekhi Doby caught fire in the second half and finished with 17 points.
- Jervier Jr. finished with a double-double at 15 points and 12 rebounds.
