AU men open outdoor season at NCC First Chance

The Aurora University men's track and field team competed at the First Chance Invitational hosted by North Central College on March 28th and 29th. The Spartans placed 6th of 11 teams with 48.5 points.
The Spartans were led on Thursday by Cris Valencia's impressive run in the 10,000 meter. Valencia finished in second, and his new personal record of 32:32.10 improves on his third best time in Aurora history.
The first event on Friday was the men's javelin competition, where Brian Nasr finished in second place with a season best toss of 49.56 meters.
Nate Bermes vaulted just off his personal record, but finished in a tie for third place. Also scoring in pole vault was Ethan Sena with a tie for seventh place.
Eric Teverbaugh opened his season in the high jump and finished in a tie for fourth. 
Jacob Bohnert ran his second fastest 1500m of his collegiate career and finished in fifth place for the Spartans. 
Jahrel Rimpel ran a new lifetime personal record of 22.56 in the 200m dash. This placed him sixth at the meet.
Steven Tinsley made his season debut in the hammer throw. His mark of 44.48 meters not only placed him seventh, but it is the tenth best mark in Spartan history. 
Joshua Beechler finished in seventh in the 800m with a time of 2:02.30.

Up next, the Spartans compete at the Chicagoland Championships hosted by Elmhurst University. Competition begins on Friday April 5.
