Spartans out last Sabres in five sets

The Aurora University men's volleyball team had a 2-0 match lead but ended up needing five sets to knock off Marian University in road NACCtion on Wednesday night. AU would hold on to win 3-2 over the Sabres.

How it happened
- The Spartans won the opening set 25-20 behind a 13 kill and .296 attack team performance.
- Josh McLellan led the way in the first set with six kills.
- AU trailed the second set 18-16 but ran off on a 9-5 run to win 25-21 and took a commanding 2-0 match lead.
- The Spartans were out hit in the second set but still led.
- The third set was closely played with extra points needed before AU fell 28-26.
- In the fourth set, a Spartan lead midway through disappeared and Marian would win 25-21 to send the match to a fifth set.
- For the second match in a row the Spartans needed five sets.
- The Spartans roared out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back.
- After Marian cut the AU lead to three at 8-5, the Spartans turned on the after burners and went on to win 15-8.
- AU would win the match 3-2.
