Spartans perfect in day two of Marilyn Scribner Invitational

The Aurora University women's volleyball team hit the court again on Saturday for day two of then Marilyn Scribner Invitational following their 3-0 win over Lawerence University on Friday night. The Spartans stayed perfect in the tournament, picking up 3-0 victories over both Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Beloit College on Saturday.

How it happened
MATCH ONE:
- AU got out to an 7-4 lead in the first set after Kate Poellmann slammed down three early kills.
- The Spartans then proceeded to go on an 8-0 run, as Erin Henkel hammered home a couple of kills while Riley Moreno notched two aces.
- Moreno picked up a couple kills later in the set including the final tally to get AU off to strong start.
- AU hit .500 as a team in the commanding 25-7 first set win.
- Set two saw AU get out to another early lead at 5-2, with Henkel continuing her strong play notching a couple of kills.
- Rose-Hulman came back on a 5-0 run, but the Spartans responded and would eventually tie the score at 12 halfway through the set after a Lulu Torres kill.
- After falling behind 23-22 late in the second set, a 3-0 run capped by a Poellmann kill gave AU the set victory.
- Poellmann continued her display of skills with two more kills in an early 6-3 third set advantage for AU.
- After a back-and-forth frame of well played volleyball, Rose-Hulman would go on a 5-0 run for a 20-18 lead.
- AU responded with a 4-0 run of their own and would eventually win the third set 25-12.
- This gave the Spartans the 3-0 match victory.

MATCH TWO
- AU got out to a 9-5 lead in their first set against Beloit.
- Hannah Joseph helped the Spartans follow that with a kill and ace in a 4-0 scoring run and 13-6 first set lead.
- Beloit did get within two at 15-13, but that was as close as the first set would get in a 25-7 Spartan win.
- The second set was not nearly as back-and-forth as AU found a 16-0 advantage.
- Rosie Karl was credited with the first three tally's of the set, while Joseph picked up three more aces.
- AU would take the second set 25-4 as they hit a scorching .900 as a team.
- As they had all day, the Spartans started off another set hot with a 4-0 lead in the third frame.
- After Beloit had found life, AU came back on another 4-0 run.
- The Spartans would coast to a 25-12 win and 3-0 match victory.
- This capped a perfect day for the Spartans in which they did not lose a single match in the Marilyn Scribner Invitational.
