Spartan women Start 2025 Strong with Victory Over Stars

The Aurora University women's basketball team began 2025 with a road trip to Dominican University. The Spartans took on th Stars and came away with a 90-43 victory to start the new year.

How it happened
- Each team traded baskets through cold shooting starts. AU was tied at 6 with the Stars halfway through the first quarter.
- AU closed out the quarter on a 14-4 scoring run to lead Dominican 20-10 after the first frame.
- Alena Anderson sparked the run with a couple of baskets including a three.
- AU continued their momentum going into the second as Krystyna Manzanarez started to catch fire.
- An old fashioned three point play from Manzanarez gave AU a 28-14 lead with 8:19 on the clock in the first half.
- Riley Doggett started get in on the scoring fun as AU extended their lead in the second.
- Jennifer Heinberg nailed a three iin AU's final possession of the first half to give the Spartans 41-23 lead going into the locker room.
- Doggett led the Spartans in the first half with 9 points while AU held Dominican to shooting just 30% from the field in the second quarter.
- Each team traded baskets again to start the second half, before AU went on another scoring run.
- AU took a commanding 53-27 lead halfway through the third quarter.
- Heinberg stayed hot at the end of the third quarter including another three to give AU a 68-36 lead.
- AU closed out the Stars 22-7 in the fourth quarter to take a 90-43 victory.
- Four different Spartans scored in double digits as Heinberg led the attack with 14 points.
- Selena Vargas, Doggett, and Heinberg each collected three steals for AU defensively.
