Hot start lifts Spartans over Cougars

Led by junior running back TJ Ramsey (159 yards and five touchdowns), the Aurora University Spartan football team routed the Cougars of Concordia University Chicago 59-26 on Saturday afternoon in River Forest.

How it happened
- Lucious Dones had a long return to open the game and set up the AU offense at the CUC 37.
- TJ Ramsey scored on the fourth offensive play from one-yard out and the Spartans led 7-0.
- The AU defense forced two punts before the offense got rolling again.
- On a third down, AU went to the half-back pass with Ramsey connecting with Ethan Svoboda for 37-yards.
- Two plays later, Liam Mickle connected with Connor Bright on a quick throw, catch and run for 39-yards with Bright dashing 36-yards of it after the catch.
- AU led 14-0.
- Early in the second, Ramsey added his second rushing score of the game from 29-yards out and after the defense forced another punt, Mickle hit Svoboda on a 37 yard touchdown and AU led 28-0.
- CUC scored on their final two drives of the second quarter to send the teams to halftime with AU leading 28-13.
- On the first PAT, Arthur Burden blocked the kick and Fabian Mosley scooped it up but his attempt at the two-point defensive score was stopped after a long 56-yard return.
- The third quarter was a wild period with team scoring on every possession.
- CUC opened the scoring to cut the AU lead to 28-20.
- AU turned to the ground game and Ramsey would score his third of the day from 12-yards out to push the lead to 35-20.
- The AU defense did force a CUC punt but the return was muffed with CUC recovery the ball and scoring to cut the AU lead to 35-26.
- Ramsey scored his fourth time on the day on a 35-yard dash and AU led 42-26.
- The scoring was not done with AU adding one more score just before the quarter ended to go ahead 49-26.
- Mickle hit Dominick Coronado on a 21-yard score.
- Early in the fourth, Ramsey completed his day with his fifth rushing touchdown, scoring from 16-yards and AU led 56-26.
- The AU defense turned up the pressure in the fourth, collecting four sacks, two from JP Chaney and one each from Christian Westbrook and Logan McDonald.
- Chaney ended the day with four sacks, a forced fumble and fumble recovery while the defense had 10 sacks as a unit.
- Brett Money finished the days scoring in the fourth when he connected on a 27-yard field goal.
- AU was victorious 59-26.
