Spartans soar higher than Eagles in NACC win

The Aurora University women's basketball team hosted Benedictine University inside Thornton Gymnasium on Wednesday evening. The Spartans let it fly, to the tune of 11 three-pointers on their way to taking down the Eagles, 78-57. The Spartans used the three-ball to overcome a sizable margin at the free-throw line for the visitors.

How it happened
- AU trailed 3-0 following and an-one, an upcoming theme for the night.
- The Spartans overcame the early deficit quickly and grabbed the final lead change of the game on a three from Krystyna Manzanarez with just 1:25 into the first quarter.
-  AU began raining three's for a while and built what would become an insurmountable lead after one quarter, 28-10.
- The Spartans went 6-of-10 from beyond the arc in the first.
- Jennifer Heinberg opened the second with a three for the Spartans and later in the quarter, Riley Doggett drained another to push the lead to 20 (45-25).
- AU would lead 49-31 going to halftime.
- The Spartans were 9-of-16 from three in the first-half and used that to overcome an 11-2 disadvantage from the free-throw line.
- Three's again rained to open the third with Kylie Fischbach and Doggett hitting on back to back possessions to push the Spartan lead to 24 at 57-33.
- AU led after three quarters of action, 63-47.
- After the visitors cut the lead down to 11 early in the fourth, the Spartans regrouped and rallied.
- Fischbach, Doggett and Manzanarez combined for an 8-0 run and the Spartans led comfortably again at 72-53.
- The Spartans would go on to coast to a 21-point win, 78-57.
