Late rally falls short for Spartans

The #2 Aurora Spartans took on Lawrence University on Saturday night, in game two of the weekend series. AU couldn't mount the comeback after going done two scores early, the Spartans would fall 4-3.

LOCATION: Fox Valley Ice Arena - Geneva, Illinois
RECORDS: #2 Aurora University 8-2-0 overall and 6-2-0 NCHA; Lawrence University 3-9-0 overall and 1-7-0 NCHA.

How it happened
- Seven minutes into the contest, the Vikings would score, going up 1-0.
- Despite no penalties and many close AU shots, Lawrence would score again with three minutes remaining in the first.
- An AU penalty put the Vikings on a power play and they took advantage, going up 3-0 early in the second period.
- A multitude of Spartan shots couldn't connect but two Viking penalties yielded a 5-3 AU power play.
- Chayce Schmidt used that time to put the Spartans on the board with assists from Landry Schmuck and Roc Truman. 
- Less than one minute later, and still on the power play, AU's Jackson Kirk scored with the assists from Jaden Davis and Chase Broda.
- That would conclude the second period with the Vikings leading 3-2.
- Deep into the third period, Lawrence scored again to go up 4-2.
- AU pulled the goalie with two minutes remaining, and using the extra man, Simon Diaz scored with help from Many Grey Horses and Schmidt.
- The Spartans wouldn't score again and would fall 4-3.
- AU goalie Bodee Weiss completed the game with 26 saves.
