Spartans Split Weekend Matches

The Aurora University men's volleyball team continued their weekend of volleyball in Ohio on Saturday afternoon with two matches, one of which was against a ranked opponent in #7 Juniata University. The #14 ranked Spartans took their first match of the day against Mount Union University 3-1 (25-23, 27-25, 22-25, 25-24) before losing in another four set match against Juniata 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 11-25, 21-25).

How it happened
MATCH ONE vs MOUNT UNION
- After falling behind 6-5 in the first set, AU rattled off four straight points that included back-to-back kills from Sebastian Ciszewski to take a 9-6 lead.
- Mount Union rattled off four of their own later in the set to hand the Spartans a 15-13 deficit.
- AU came back on another four point run to tie the score at 20. 
- The Spartans wound up winning the first set by a score of 25-23 backed by a scorching .478 hitting percentage.
- Each team went back-and-forth in another close second set, as the score was tied at 11 about midway through.
- Mount Union had AU on the ropes with a 25-24 lead, but three-straight points from the Spartans with kills from Mateo Scharosch and Cizewski allowed them to previal.
- This gave AU the 27-25 set win and 2-0 match lead.
- The Spartans fell behind 10-5 in the third set, but Connor Carroll collected back-to-back kills and an ace to make it 10-9.
- Despite keeping it at two after another Ciszewski kill, AU fell in the third set 25-22.
- This did not deter the Spartans, who took the fourth set by a score of 25-23 and the match 3-1.
- Josh McLellan hammered home six kills for AU in that final set.

MATCH TWO vs JUNIATA
- Despite leading 3-0 in the opening set, AU did not take a lead larger than one until Alex Nonhof made it 19-17 in favor of the Spartans.
- This forced a Juniata timeout, but it would not matter in the 25-22 AU set victory.
- Ciszewski was the one who ended the opening set with two-straight kills.
- Solomon Dail collected two-straight kills of his own to keep the Spartans within three midway through the second set 13-10.
- AU would end up falling in the second set 25-23, tying the match at one apiece.
- The Spartans fell in the third set 25-11, giving Juniata a 2-1 match lead.
- Juniata made that a 3-1 match victory when they took down AU 25-21 in the fourth set.
- Despite losing by four points, the Spartans did hold a .286 hitting percentage in that final set,
