Spartans Comeback Fall in overtime at UW-La Crosse

The Aurora University women's lacrosse team nearly pulled off their second-straight fourth quarter comeback when they stayed in Wisconsin for a non-conference match up with the Eagles of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. However, the Spartans ended up falling by a score of 11-10 in the first overtime period, as they conclude their road trip.

How it happened
 - AU got a free position attempt about five minutes in and Kenly Axvig cashed in to give the Spartans the early 1-0 lead.
- The Eagles scored three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead heading into the second quarter.
- The Spartans didn't waste much time in the second taking the lead back, starting with a Brianna Peck shot from inside the circle that found the back of the net.
- Peck was assisted by Nicolina Smith, before Sydney Breitenstein and Smith each scored to make it 4-3 in favor of AU.
- Breitenstein was assisted by Sydney Mann, and Smith's shot came from inside the circle while the Spartans were on the power play.
- UW-La Crosse scored two unanswered goals to take a 5-4 lead heading into the halftime break.
- AU started on another power play to begin the second half, as Caley Russell took just 16 seconds to tie the score at five.
- The Eagles answered back and then some with three goals to take an 8-5 lead with 9:14 to go in the third.
- Olivia Dahlberg netted a free position goal at 8:36 in the third to cut the UW-La Crosse lead to two, before the Eagles answered again to make it 9-6.
- Reeve cahsed in on yet another free position opportunity while AU was on the advantage to cut the Spartans deficit to 9-7 heading into the fourth quarter.
- That score became 9-8 with an AU goal from Caley Russell early in the fourth, before Peck tied the score at nine at the 8:14 mark in the fourth.
- Both goals came on a Spartan power play, with Mann and Breitenstein each picking up asssits on the play.
- The Eagles took a 10-9 lead that they held until there was 37 seconds to go, when Peck scored her third goal of the game on a free position attempt.
- This sent the contest to overtime, where AU fell by a score of 11-10.
