Spartans Open Spring Break Trip with Road Battle at Hope

The Aurora University women's lacrosse team opened their spring break trip with a tough match-up at Hope College on Monday, falling behind early and despite a stronger second-half effort, the Spartans fell 13-3.

How it happened
 - Hope took early control, scoring five goals in the first quarter and leading 9-0 at halftime. 
 - Aurora found its offensive rhythm in the third quarter when Kenly Axvig capitalized on a free-position shot to put the Spartans on the board.
 - Moments later, Sarah Brown found the back of the net off an assist from Syd Mann, cutting the deficit to 10-2.
 - Hope responded with two more goals before the end of the quarter, pushing its lead to 12-2.
 - Kielly Reeve added a late goal in the final minute of play off another free-position attempt, giving the Spartans their third and final goal.
 - Defensively, Aurora fought hard in the second half, forcing multiple turnovers and holding Hope to just four goals over the final two quarters.
 - Rachel Wickey and Meghan Ginty split time in goal, combining for six saves.
