Spartans Split At Edgewood

The Aurora University softball team traveled to Verona, Wisconsin on Friday afternoon for a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference twin bill with the Eagles of Edgewood College. Nina Richards, Faith Biggs, and Kelsey Oviatt each homered for the Spartans in a 7-2 game one win for AU, before Edgewood took game two by a score of 5-4.

How it happened
Game One
- Nina Richards led-off the bottom-of-the-second with blast over the centerfield wall to give AU a 1-0 lead.
- With two runners on in AU's half of the third, Faith Biggs crushed a ball over the left-field wall to make it 4-0.
- In the top-of-the-fourth, AU's home run party continued when Kelsey Oviatt cranked a solo shot of her own.
- Stephani DeBise hit an RBI-single in the top-of-the-fifth to give AU a 6-0 lead, before an Alex Thiel double later in the inning made it 7-0.
- In the bottom-of-the-sixth, Edgewood broke up Katelyn Serafin's shutout with two runs.
- Serafin finished off the Eagles 1-2-3 in their half of the seventh to complete the 7-2 victory for AU.
- This also marked a complete game for Serafin, who finished the game with nine strikeouts.

Game Two
- Similar to game one, AU grabbed an early 1-0 lead as Aubrey Ortiz came around to score after an Eagles error in the top-of-the-first.
- This 1-0 score would hold until the bottom-of-the-third, when Edegwood tied the score at one.
- In the bottom-of-the-fifth, Edgewood grabbed a 4-1 lead.
- In the top-of-the-sixth, Carly Clemens blasted a double to left-center, scoring Alex Thiel and making it 4-2.
- The very next batter in the sixth for AU Kelsey Oviatt singled in Clemens to make it 4-3.
- Edgewood took a two-run lead back with a run in the bottom-of-the-sixth.
- Ortiz came around to score on a wild pitch in the top-of-the-seventh for AU, cutting the Eagle lead to 5-4.
- The Spartans loaded the bases with two outs later in the seventh, but were unable to tie or take the lead.
- This gave Edgewood a 5-4 game two victory.
