McLellan and Nonhof lead Spartans earning NACC postseason honors

The Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) announced the 2025 Men's Volleyball postseason awards and All-Conference Teams today. Spartan junior Josh McLellan was named the NACC Player of the Year while senior libero Alex Nonhof was named the Defensive Player of the Year. McLellan and Nonhof led the way as two of five Spartans to earn First or Second-Team All-Conference selections as well.

McLellan and Nonhof joined junior setter Logan Brouwer in being named to the NACC First-Team All-Conference team while sophomore middles Sebastian Ciszewski and Ammar Brzovic were selected Second-Team All-Conference..

Player of the Year - Josh McLellan, Jr., OH
McLellan, a junior outside hitter, has played in 27 of 28 matches for Aurora this season, recording 371 kills while posting a .311 hitting percentage. He has also contributed 126 digs, 33 blocks (four solo), 17 service aces, and six assists.

McLellan has recorded double figures in kills on 22 occasions, led by a season-high 24 against Benedictine on March 25. He also posted 22 kills against just four errors on 44 attempts for a .409 attack percentage in a five-set win at MSOE on April 5 to clinch the Spartans' first outright NACC title and third consecutive crown overall. McLellan had two double-doubles during the season and had at least eight digs on three other occasions - including nine in the regular-season finale against MSOE.

McLellan leads all NACC players in kills per set at 4.12 - a figure that also ranks 12th in NCAA Division III. He also ranks second in the conference in points per set (4.52), fifth in attacks per set (9.22), and seventh in hitting percentage (.311). McLellan is the second Aurora student-athlete in three seasons to be named NACC Men's Volleyball Player of the Year. James Karwin captured the honor in 2023.

Defensive Player of the Year - Alex Nonhof, Sr., DS
Nonhof, a senior defensive specialist, has played in 26 of Aurora's 28 matches heading into Thursday's NACC Tournament semifinal against Dominican. He has posted 262 digs and 51 assists.

On 13 occasions, Nonhof posted double figures in digs, led by a 23-dig effort in a four-set win over UC Santa Cruz on March 29 and a 22-dig performance in Aurora's five-set win at MSOE on April 5 that secured the program's third-straight - and first outright - NACC title. He had at least eight digs on six other occasions.

Nonhof also had a season-high five assists in a sweep of nationally-ranked Loras on March 7. He leads all NACC players in digs per set at 2.98 - a mark that ranks 15th nationally. Nonhof is the first Aurora student-athlete to be named NACC Men's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Year.

Brouwer earned First-Team All-Conference honors as the AU setter, leading the NACC with 9.99 assists per set while adding 47 kills and a team-leading 38 service aces. Defensively he is averaging 1.171 digs and 0.63 blocks per set for the Spartans.

On the Second-Team, Ciszewski has 1.65 kills per set while hitting .307 and having 16 service aces. On defense, he is averaging 0.91 blocks per set.  Brzovic is averaging 1.71 kills per set while hitting .362 and defensively he is averaging 0.94 blocks per set.

Next action for the Spartan men's volleyball team comes on Thursday, April 10 when they host Dominican University in the semi-final round of the NACC tournament. Opening serve is slated for 7:00 p.m. in Thornton Gymnasium.
